What Ingredients Are in SonoVive? The Full List, the Reported Amounts and the Gaps

Quick answer

SonoVive names five ingredients: ginkgo biloba, St. John's wort, Bacopa monnieri, vinpocetine and huperzine A. Sponsored articles list eight and give amounts per capsule, but the vendor has confirmed none of them. Several carry medicine cautions. The Supplement Facts panel on your own bottle is the only list to trust.

Three lists

Why do SonoVive ingredient lists online not match?

Search for a "sonovive ingredients list" or "sonovive product ingredients" and you meet three different answers. Only one of them comes from the company, and even that one has no numbers.

Where each SonoVive ingredient list comes from
SourceHow many ingredientsAmounts given
Brand graphic called Inside SonoViveFive namedNone
Vendor sales pageThe same five, then "and more!"None
Two sponsored third-party articlesEight, plus capsule materialsPer capsule, not confirmed by the vendor

Paid articles are written to sell. We show their numbers because readers search for them, and we tag every one as reported and unconfirmed. If an article and your bottle disagree, believe the bottle.

Side by side

What does each SonoVive ingredient do, and how much is reported?

The five named ingredients, reported amounts and the doses research used (reported amounts are unverified)
IngredientWhat it isReported per capsuleResearch doseMain caution
Ginkgo bilobaTree-leaf extract50 mg240 mg a day in the large dementia trialMay add to bleeding with blood thinners
St. John's wortMood herb250 mgNo hearing dose exists; studied for depressionWeakens many medicines
Bacopa monnieriAyurvedic herb120 mg300-450 mg a day for 12 weeksStomach upset; thyroid and dementia drugs
VinpocetineLab-made compound from a periwinkle alkaloid2 mg5-60 mg a day in dementia trialsFDA warns against it in pregnancy
Huperzine AAlkaloid from Chinese club moss10 mcg200-800 mcg a dayDo not combine with donepezil or rivastigmine

Read the last two columns together. A reported amount that sits below the research dose is a reason for modest expectations. It is not a reason to take extra capsules, because the other four ingredients rise with every capsule you add.

Key facts

What are the key facts about the SonoVive ingredients?

  • Five ingredients are named by the brand. The sales page hints at more.
  • Eight ingredients appear in sponsored articles, plus a capsule shell, none confirmed by the vendor.
  • Per-capsule figures from those articles run below the lowest study dose for ginkgo, bacopa, vinpocetine and huperzine A.
  • St. John's wort is the largest ingredient if the reported 250 mg is right, and it was never studied for hearing.(NCCIH St. John's wort)
  • Four of the five carry a medicine caution, and vinpocetine carries an FDA pregnancy warning.(FDA vinpocetine)
  • No Supplement Facts panel, serving size or warning text is published online.
  • SonoVive is a dietary supplement. It is not FDA approved, and FDA approves no supplement.(FDA supplement Q&A)

Ingredient one

What is the ginkgo biloba in SonoVive?

Anyone who types "sonovive ginkgo biloba" wants to know if the leaf extract helps hearing. Ginkgo is made from the fan-shaped leaves of the ginkgo tree. It is the single named ingredient that was tested on people with tinnitus.

Cochrane pooled 12 studies with 1,915 people in 2022. The reviewers called the benefit uncertain.(Cochrane: Ginkgo for tinnitus 2022) An older Cochrane review of 4 trials and 1,543 people also found no clear help.(Cochrane: Ginkgo for tinnitus (Hilton))

The reported 50 mg is about a fifth of the 240 mg a day used in a large trial of older adults. That trial found no drop in dementia.(GEM trial (DeKosky 2008)) Ginkgo may also add to bleeding with warfarin, aspirin and NSAIDs.(NCCIH ginkgo)

Ingredient two

Why is St. John's wort in SonoVive?

The vendor does not say. A "sonovive st john's wort" search usually turns up interaction warnings, and for good reason. This yellow-flowered herb is sold for mood. Its research sits in depression trials, 35 of them in one review of 6,993 patients.(Apaydin 2016 SJW review) It has no known role in hearing.

It does speed up how the body clears some drugs. NIH lists birth control pills, warfarin, cyclosporine, some statins and antidepressants among the medicines it can weaken.(NCCIH St. John's wort) If the 250 mg figure is right, this herb outweighs every other active in the capsule.

Ingredient three

What does Bacopa monnieri do in SonoVive?

Think of "sonovive bacopa monnieri" as the memory part of the formula. In six trials, 300-450 mg a day for 12 weeks improved 9 of 17 memory recall tests.(Pase 2012 bacopa review) A later analysis of 9 studies and 518 people found a 17.9 millisecond gain on one attention test.(Kongkeaw 2014 bacopa meta-analysis)

No bacopa trial measured hearing. The reported 120 mg is about 40% of the common 300 mg trial dose.(ADDF bacopa 2024) Stomach upset is the usual complaint, and 11% of people quit one study because of it.

Ingredient four

What should you know about vinpocetine in SonoVive?

Vinpocetine is not an herb. It is a lab-made compound that began as a European drug.(MSKCC vinpocetine) In 2019 FDA warned that women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not take it. FDA also tentatively says vinpocetine does not meet the definition of a dietary ingredient.(FDA vinpocetine)

A "sonovive vinpocetine" search should therefore start with that warning, not with the 2 mg figure. Trials used 5-60 mg a day, and a Cochrane review of 3 studies and 583 people called the dementia evidence inconclusive.(Cochrane vinpocetine) Our longer note is in the vinpocetine and FDA article.

Ingredient five

What is huperzine A doing in SonoVive?

Huperzine A comes from Chinese club moss. It acts on the same enzyme as donepezil and rivastigmine, two Alzheimer's drugs.(ADDF huperzine A) Twenty trials with 1,823 people used 200-800 mcg a day, and reviewers rated their quality poor.(Yang 2013 huperzine meta-analysis)

The reported 10 mcg is 5% of the lowest trial dose. No study tested it for hearing. Anyone who types "sonovive huperzine a" and takes a dementia drug should speak to a prescriber first.

Reported only

What else might be in a SonoVive capsule?

Sponsored articles add three more actives and four shell ingredients. The vendor names none of them.

  • L-glutamine, 150 mg reported. We found no research linking it to hearing or memory.(MSKCC glutamine)
  • Phosphatidylserine (4%), 125 mg reported. Soy versions mostly failed to beat placebo for memory.(ADDF phosphatidylserine)
  • N-acetyl L-carnitine HCl, 50 mg reported. Memory trials gave 1.5 to 3 grams a day, far above this.(ODS carnitine)
  • Capsule shell: gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide. Gelatin comes from animals, so we do not call SonoVive vegetarian.

Safety

Which SonoVive ingredients can clash with your medicines?

Four of the five. Bring the bottle and your full medicine list to a pharmacist before the first capsule.

Antidepressants, birth control, blood thinners

St. John's wort may weaken them, and may cause serious serotonin effects with some drugs.(NCCIH St. John's wort)

Aspirin, warfarin, NSAIDs, surgery

Ginkgo and vinpocetine may raise bleeding risk, so tell your surgeon.(MSKCC ginkgo)

Dementia and thyroid drugs

Huperzine A and bacopa act on the same systems as these medicines.(ADDF huperzine A)

Pregnancy is a firm no because of vinpocetine. We also advise against SonoVive while breastfeeding, and the product is for adults only.

Before you pay

What should you ask the seller about the SonoVive formula?

You can phone the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 before you order. Four questions cover the gaps:

  1. Amounts. How many milligrams of each named ingredient are in one serving?
  2. "And more!" What does that phrase on the sales page include?
  3. The shell. Is the capsule made from gelatin or from a plant material?
  4. Testing. Is there a lab report for heavy metals? Bacopa carries a known contamination risk.(ADDF bacopa 2024)

A clear answer is useful. A vague answer is useful too, because it tells you how much the seller knows about its own product.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the ingredients in SonoVive?

The brand names ginkgo biloba, St. John's wort, Bacopa monnieri, vinpocetine and huperzine A. Sponsored articles add L-glutamine, phosphatidylserine and N-acetyl L-carnitine, plus a gelatin shell. None of that is confirmed by the vendor.

Does SonoVive publish how much of each ingredient it contains?

No. The brand graphic and sales page give names only. Per-capsule figures come from two sponsored articles and stay unconfirmed until a Supplement Facts panel is shown.

Is there St. John's wort in SonoVive?

Yes, it is one of the five named ingredients. Sponsored articles report 250 mg per capsule, which would make it the largest. Because it changes how the body handles many drugs, ask a pharmacist first.

Does SonoVive have more than five ingredients?

Probably. The sales page says "and more!", and sponsored articles list eight. Your bottle's panel will show the true list.

Are the SonoVive ingredients proven for hearing?

No. Only ginkgo was tested for tinnitus, with an uncertain result. The others were studied for mood, memory or dementia, and none of those trials measured hearing.

How can I check the real SonoVive ingredient list?

Read the Supplement Facts panel on the bottle. If it is missing or unclear, call the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 and ask for the serving size, any blend and the capsule material.

Our verdict

Our view

The SonoVive formula reads like a memory and mood stack with a hearing label on the front. That is our reading, and the vendor has not explained its choices. What we can say is that the named ingredients are well studied alone, the reported amounts look small, and the medicine cautions are real.

Read the panel the day the bottle arrives and keep a photo for your pharmacist. We earn money when you order through our links, so we put the cautions up front. See also what the label shows and the side effects guide.
